Cranial Osteopath for Babies & Children in London

Gentle, specialist paediatric osteopathy from a GOsC-registered osteopath with a postgraduate Diploma in Paediatric Osteopathy (DPO).

Specialist Osteopathic Care for Babies and Young Children

Many parents are surprised to learn that osteopathic care can be appropriate for babies and young children. Osteopaths are trained to work gently with patients of all ages, adapting their approach to suit a baby’s developing body.

At Wejuv Osteopathy, Grant Barnett offers gentle, specialist osteopathic care for babies and children from clinics in Tufnell Park, Highbury, and Shepherd’s Bush.

Grant holds a postgraduate Diploma in Paediatric Osteopathy (DPO) — a specialist qualification obtained through the Osteopathic Centre for Children (OCC) in London, where he also volunteers regularly. This level of training goes well beyond standard undergraduate osteopathic education and means Grant has dedicated significant postgraduate study specifically to working with babies, infants, and young children.

If you have questions about whether osteopathy might be appropriate for your baby, Grant is happy to have a conversation before you book.

Osteopathic Care for Babies and Young Children

Grant is trained and qualified to assess and treat babies and young children using gentle, hands-on osteopathic techniques. Sessions are unhurried and tailored to the individual child, with parents present throughout.

Osteopaths adapt their approach for younger patients, often using cranial osteopathic techniques — very gentle, non-manipulative methods that are appropriate for newborns and infants.

Osteopathic techniques are suitable for children at all stages of development. Grant will assess your child to discuss what might be helpful for their individual needs.

If you’re unsure whether osteopathy might be suitable for your baby or child, please get in touch — Grant is always happy to talk through your concerns before you book.

Is Cranial Osteopathy Safe for Babies?

Yes. Cranial osteopathy is an extremely gentle technique using minimal force — parents are often surprised at just how light the touch is. There are no cracks, clicks, or manipulations. Cranial techniques are safe and appropriate for newborns and young infants, and sessions are unhurried, with Grant working at the baby’s pace throughout.

All treatment is carried out with parents present, and Grant will always explain what he’s doing and why.

What to Expect at Your Baby's First Appointment

Your baby’s first appointment lasts 45 minutes. Grant will begin by taking a detailed case history — asking about the pregnancy, birth, feeding, and your specific concerns. This is followed by a gentle hands-on assessment and, where appropriate, treatment in the same session. You’re welcome to feed, comfort, or hold your baby at any point during the appointment.

Babies sometimes become momentarily unsettled during treatment — this is normal and passes quickly. Most babies leave the session calm and often sleepy.

Osteopathy for Older Children

Osteopathy can also be appropriate for children through every stage of development — from toddlers to teenagers. Common reasons parents bring their children include:

  • Back, neck, and joint aches and pains
  • Sports injuries and activity-related strains
  • Postural concerns from heavy school bags or prolonged sitting
  • Headaches
  • Post-illness recovery

All treatments for children are gentle, fully explained, and delivered with parents present.
